I’ve been finishing my feature in Norway, so the usual release cycle has been slowing down, but Beat for macOS 2.0.6 is out now on App Store! It brings along some new, well-cooked features as well as bug fixes.

Version Control

Already built into the app back in as early as 2020, version control finally sees the light of day. This is still a highly experimental feature, but according to early user feedback, it already works pretty well.

For those unfamiliar with Git and other similar version control tools, you commit to versions and can then observe the changes between those versions. Version control view shows you additions highlighted in green and removals in red, with a strikethrough, so this should work even if you have a color sight deficiency.

What’s best, you can generate revision markers for all the changes from selected version, so you don’t need to keep revision mode on at all times if you don’t want to.

Character Highlight

This one has been requested time and again, and finally it’s here. Select a character info from dialogue view in the sidebar and pick a color to highlight their dialogue. Thanks for one Patron for finally making me add this.

Multiple Double Dialogue Blocks

This was actually a bug (or rather an exploit which could cause crashes) which one user discovered, so instead of fixing the crash, I decided to turn it into a feature.

If your dialogue block is followed by multiple dual dialogue elements, they will all be appended on the right-hand side.

Relative Outline Heights

Toggle Relative Heights Outline settings to get a rough idea of scene lengths relative to each other directly in sidebar.

Bug Fixes

2.0.6 also contains multiple bug fixes to minor, irritating issues, including not being able to delete review notes and weird crashes in Novel Mode.
