Notes
A note is created by enclosing some text with double brackets [[]]
.
Notes can contain carriage returns, but blank lines must comprise two spaces to be recognized as the part of the preceding note element.
EXT. STREET / LEVEL CROSSING – NIGHT
Pauli, Iiris and Sini haul their equipment down the long street in silence. [[Should we have dialogue here?]]
They arrive in a roundabout [[should it be crossroads]] where Pauli, not even glancing at the others, splits from the group, and Iiris walks towards the level crossing. Sini stands still for a moment before walking after Iiris.
Pauli doesn’t look back but can hear the level crossing bells ring. [[Does this make him appear too arrogant? He maybe should look at them already.]] Once Iiris and Sini have crossed the level crossing, a freight train rumbles down the tracks. Pauli glances back, but the train blocks his view of Iiris and Sini.
Notes are designed to be compatible with the types of inserted annotation common in screenwriting software. To hide, or “comment out”, sections of text, use the omission syntax.
Omissions
Any text between /*
and */
is omitted. It won’t print out, but still remains editable in its place.
You can omit large chunks of text by pressing ⌘cmd+⇧shift+E or selecting Format → Omit. Full scenes or parts of it can be omitted.
/*
INT. SCHOOL ROOM – NIGHT
This scene is totally omitted. You can still have it in your screenplay, but it won’t print or show up anywhere.
