Forcing Element Types

You can force anything to be any other element. If you have something that is incompatible with the Fountain syntax (such as a character called Int or Ext), you can force it to be the element that you want. Just type in a special character before the element.

See Keyboard Shortcuts on how to quickly force the common elements or refer to Fountain Syntax.

Here’s a list of the most common forced elements:

.Force Scene Heading
!Force Action
@Force Character Cue
~Lyrics
===Forced Page Break
!!Shot
.THIS IS A SCENE HEADING !INTENSE ACTION… @Character Let’s sing something. ~I’m in love with your brother…
