There was a bug in Beat 1.997.3 release which can cause crashes on some systems, and especially when editing title page blocks. Fix is available now on App Store.
I added some pretty big optimizations to the previous release, but in the process, I then managed to break other stuff. Some of the broken things could cause crashes.
Beat has become pretty huge. There’s a lot of moving parts, and each system relies on others to work as expected. When changing a minor thing somewhere, I’m causing a hurricane in another feature of the app. This is exactly what caused the recent crashes for some users.
Over the weekend, I received a lot of e-mails from people who couldn’t open their files or the whole app crashed on startup. I managed to fix the issues pretty quickly, but unfortunately the patch spent 2,5 days in App Store review. As I’m writing this, the fix is finally available on App Store.
The funny thing: my fixes caused some other minor UI-related glitches. Luckily they won’t break anything, and I’ve already fixed them. Let’s hope Apple approves my patch a bit faster this time.
I’m sorry for any inconveniences. I’m currently in the process of streamlining the app design, both to reduce overlapping code in iOS and macOS versions, and to make my own life easier. The app is taking more and more of my time, and keeping all of the features up to date and working is sometimes a bit daunting.
I’ve been posting frequent development builds on Discord, but I’ll start posting them here as well. If you have time to test drive the upcoming releases, it will help me to iron out bugs in advance.
Thank you and sorry!
