After a blank line, type in int.
or ext.
followed by your scene heading. The line automatically becomes a scene heading.
If you need a scene heading which doesn’t begin with either int. or ext., add a single .
at the start of the line.
Manual Scene Numbers
Beat normally uses automatic scene numbering, but if you want to have a custom scene number, add #NUMBER#
at the end of your scene heading.
Note, however, that this won’t affect the automatic scene numbering. If you enter a custom scene number (like eight) after the third scene, the scene after that will still be given the number four.
Custom scene numbers are especially helpful when you are already in production and want to write in additional scenes while still keeping track of the original scene numbers.
Scene Colors
You can add colors to highlight scenes. These colors will not be part of the exported screenplay, they only help you to distinct certain scenes from each other.
Add a note with a color name at the end of your scene heading, for example [[green]]
. Common English color names are supported, but you can also use any other color using hex numbers.
